Old West Reproductions Incorporated in Recreation Directory

As a young boy growing up in Kalispell, Montana, I began collecting relics of the old west. My interest in frontier guns led to collecting leather gear and accessories such as holsters and belts. I started reproducing some of the original gear from my collection in 1978 and Old West Reproductions was born. I was the first to commercially reproduce vintage holsters and cartridge belts that were originally made by oldtime saddle makers like the Moran Brothers, F.A. Meanea, E.L. Gallatin, J.S. Collins, and many others. In my first printed catalog in 1980, I coined the term “Cheyenne” when making reference to a particular holster style which I called my 32 Cheyenne. The pattern for this holster was taken from an original vintage piece in my collection that dates back to the 18851890 period. It was made by and marked F.A. Meanea, Cheyenne. This original, as well as many others, are all housed in our private collection. We now have over 500 handcut patterns for all kinds of old cowboy leather gear. Most of these patterns were taken from original pieces we have either owned in the past or still own. My interest in the real history and study of the old west has always been a passion. I have been a collector of Western memorabilia and Cowboy artifacts for over 40 years. This collection now consists of over 3000 individual items – from guns to leather gear and beadwork to photographs. Several of these pieces can be seen in books like Packing Iron, by Richard Rattenbury and Cowboy and Trappings of the Old West, by Manns and Flood.
