West Point Sutlers in Recreation Directory

Sutlers were civilian traders who followed the army around. They sold a wide variety of goods, including luxuries which were normally unavailable, but prices were universally high. Goods were available on credit with payment on payday. The sutler usually sold his wares from a large tent and remained in camp until ordered to the rear which signified the beginning of a campaign. West Point Sutlers was formed in 1997. We are members of two major American Civil War reenactment societies in the UK and as we are reenactors ourselves, we believe we know exactly what reenactors and living historians want from their hobby. Throughout the summer season we travel around the UK to major American Civil War and multiperiod events.
