His goal was to provide quality goods to adventurers like himself and started distributing out of a small house in Brisbane. In the early 1970s many Australians became increasingly interested in the international mountaineering and rock climbing scene. Mountain Designs was created in response to this demand. It is this Heritage born of the mountains philosophy which has been a consistent image for the past 30 years. During the 80s the demand for Mountain Designs product grew, fuelled by the adventurous spirit of antipodeans seeking worldly challenges in exotic places. This was a period of rapid growth for the business, label and reputation. The growing demand urged us to service the market responsibly and we saw a need to embark on a policy of controlling the retailing of our products. To this end Mountains Designs retail outlets can be found at strategic locations around Australia and NZ. The late 90s saw the introduction of Online buying through our web site at mountaindesigns, introducing our company to the world market. We were the first Australian retailer in the outdoor clothing & equipment industry to do so. At around the same time the Mountain Designs Alliance Membership Program was introduced, offering additional benefits to our valued customers worldwide.
