Miniature Home in Recreation Directory

Miniature petitpoint is my biggest passion now, but I have been interested in dollhouses since my mother and I made my first one out of cardboard boxes from the grocery store when I was only 6 or 7 years old. I became serious about dollhouses a few years later when my little sister and I began building houses, again out of cardboard, for our Barbies. Even at that age, we were highly conscious of detail and made houses, furniture, travel trailers, and accessories. My first real wood furniture was made in junior high after I learned to use a jig saw in shop class. My first needlework skills were learned from my grandmother as soon as I was old enough to handle a needle and thread or a crochet hook. I learned to knit full size from my sister about 20 years ago. Over the past few years, it seems that everything I make is getting smaller and smaller I crochet with threads almost as fine as a human hair and knit with 0.5mm knitting needles and thread finer than sewing thread. So far, I have worked on silk gauze with counts as high as 72 stitches per inch, though I work more often on 48 count.
